A “red flag” identified as a precursor to medical billing audits is billing for non-physician practitioner (NPP) services without the NPP being credentialed with the insurance carrier. All NPPs should be credentialed with the payer, regardless of whether the services are being billed “Incident To” or through the NPP’s individual NPI (National Provider Identifier).  Post-payment demands can be in the millions and seriously impact a physician’s cashflow, practice, and ability to stay in business.

Almost every NJ physician practice is affected by the NJ Out of Network (OON) Law as of
August 2018. There are several requirements for hospitals, healthcare facilities and
physician offices.
 
For Conventus members only, the Conventus OON Toolkit has been designed
to specifically address the needs of physician and staff workflow. It includes disclosure
requirements, sample disclosure forms, suggested website content and
recommendations for implementation, key talking points for staff, and more. Conventus
website log-in instructions for obtaining the Toolkit:
1. Go to https://www.conventusnj.com/Out_of_Network_Toolkit.aspx
2. In the "Sign In" box enter your User Name = First Initial and Last Name. Example:
JSmith
3. Enter your Password, or if you do not know your password click on "Forgotten
Password" and a new password will be sent to your email.
